Her pictorial works transport us to an imaginary place of chimerical lands, openning the gates of an elsewhere somewhere between fable, tales and comedy.
Her approach, somewhere between traditional painting and the anime culture, notably features expressive portraits which are especially recognizable by the particular grey and diaphanous skin of the characters within.
The scenes she depicts evoke, in a poetic manner, the world of dance and fables. Her still lifes are sexed and cartoon characters coexist with zany or familiar animals. The pictorial depiction inside her paintings, their manifest oddness, appear to have seeped through the cracks of a wonderland. Realistic but distorted, they collide across several cultures and eras.
At first glance, a certain naivety may veil the works of the Indonesian artist. A deeper glance reveals a soundly rooted social conscience. Thus, some of her series denounce with humor the shortcomings of our society by blending in, almost subliminaly, critical messages. Her audacity resonates with her atypical career; that of a contemporary artist with a prolific fluidity. Since her first exhibitions in 2013, her work has traveled throughout Europe, the United States and Asia. Ronnie Jiang now lives and works in Paris.
